Parts of a Dictionary Entry
Dictionaries have many parts to them. If you want to use them properly, you need to know all the parts of dictionaries. This will help you navigate all the parts of one.

1.) Guide Words are the first and last words on a dictionary page.
2.) Entry Words are words at the beginning of an entry.
3.) Definitions explain what the word means.
4.) Word History is where the word originated from.
5.) Pronunciations teach you how to say the word properly.
6.) Inflected Forms have different prefixes or suffixes added to a base word.
7.) Part of Speech is when a dictionary entry tells you what type of word is being used. (Examples: adjective, noun, verb, etc.)
8.) Illustrative Examples give you the word in a sample sentence.
